Iva Lee Record's Obituary
Iva was born December 9, 1950 in Sugarhouse to Ivan E. and Lillie Lee Conn Dodds. She had an older sister, Ardith “Andy” Bishop. Iva passed away October 10, 2020. Iva loved God and had great faith that he would see us through our trials.
Iva graduated from South High in Salt Lake City, Utah. One of Iva’s first jobs was as an usher in a number of movie theaters. She’d lead you to your seat with a flashlight in hand. Iva worked for Payless Shoes for 42 years. She loved square dancing and met her husband, Gene, while dancing with the Swinging Singles and Leather and Lace square dancing clubs. Gene and Iva were married in 1996 and had 24 wonderful years together.
Iva and Gene loved watching the Nascar races and especially enjoyed when they would travel to Texas to visit her niece, Jenifer, and would get to watch the races in person. She loved watching numbers 24-Jeff Gordon and 19-Martin Truex Jr. She enjoyed watching football, no matter who was playing. Iva loved watching movies and it might be safe to say there weren’t many she hadn’t seen. She liked watching the Hallmark Channel, especially the Christmas movies.
When Iva married Gene, she became part of a big family. She would often say, in the beginning, that she didn’t want to be called grandma. But I think she secretly loved to hear the kids call her Grandma Iva. Iva loved her family and was much loved in return. Her laugh and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed, as well as her frequent texts and phone calls checking in on everything and making sure everyone was ok.
Iva leaves behind her best friend and husband Gene; her niece Jenifer (David) Sutton; step children, Jennifer (Ralph, deceased), Susan, David (Carol), Paul (Ginny), Gary (Gretha), Carol (Michael), as well as many grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. Preceded in death by her parents and sister.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
