Jack F Fyans' Obituary
Jack F. Fyans, age 78, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on April 14, 2025 after struggling with a long illness.
Jack was born November 11, 1947 to Joseph Fyans Jr. and Leone Slater in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jack was the youngest of 4 children.
After attending East High School, he was planning on serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. However, his draft notice came one day before his mission call. He was told that if they had come on the same day he could have chosen. Jack then went into the army for 2 years, one of those years he was in Vietnam. He was in the infantry as a mortar’s specialist, where he received 3 Bronze Stars for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. After returning from Vietnam, Sergeant Fyans was assigned to be over a tank unit at Fort Hood.
On May 14, 1976 Jack married Beth Robinson in Salt Lake City and they had two children. Brittney Elizabeth and Joshua Jack.
As Jack’s father passed away when he was 9 years old, he had a paper route at a young age, as finances were tight for the family. Later he would work for Safeway Grocery stores throughout high school. After his military service, Jack went to school in California to pursue education in restorative dental technology to make bridges and crowns. He worked in this field for a number of years. He later worked in transportation for Jordon and Canyon School Districts for 25 years.
With Jack’s fun loving and warm personality, he was a collector of many friends throughout his life. He was a lover of the outdoors, with a favorite place to go…the Jericho Sand Dunes. He loved anything with an engine and speed. He began with his friends in their jeep club and later with his family. This also became a favorite place for his children, as they got the “need for speed” bug on their motorcycles and 4-wheelers. With his mechanical abilities he was always working on keeping all the motorcycles, ATV’s and RZR’s working for family and friends. Jack and Beth loved spending time with family and friends exploring the beauties of nature.
Jack retired from Canyon School District in 2017. Jack was a fun and beloved bus driver; he loved joking and teasing with the kids. Many times kids would linger until first bell, just to chat with him.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, mother, an older Brother Joe and Sister Diane (Roos). One grandchild Brekum Fyans.
He is survived by his wife, Beth and children Brittney Kay (Riley) and Son Joshua and a sister Renee (Christiansen). And 9 Grandchildren.
There will be a gravesite service on Thursday, April 24 at 11 A.M. at Camp Williams, Riverton, Utah.
