Jacob Looser's Obituary
Jacob Looser, 94, of West Point Utah, was born May 7, 1928 in the mountains of Ebnat-Kappel, St Gallen Switzerland to Josef Looser and Verena Baumgartner. He passed away on Feb. 21, 2023. He was the 3rd of 6 children. His siblings are Anna (Gotleib) Schneebeli, Joseph (Elsie) Looser, Jared (Lia) Looser, Nicklaus (Susanna) Looser, and Elsie (Don) Hullinger. All are previously deceased.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosmarie Deck and their 5 children: Mark (Vicky) Looser, Bernice (Brian) Moser, Christine (Dave) Taylor, Rebecca (Scott) Harris and Daniel (Mary) Loeser. They have 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, with one more on the way!
Jacob’s parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1 year prior to his birth. As a youngster, Jacob enjoyed school. It was reported that he often sang and pretended to play the violin as he walked to school. Geography and math were some of his favorite subjects, but he enjoyed PE the most. In his teenage years, Jacob joined a gym club specializing in artistic gymnastics and was involved in many competitions. After dislocating his left shoulder while practicing gymnastics (which required 2 lengthy operations), he decided to quit gymnastics and focus on his apprenticeship as a carpenter, specializing in finish carpentry.
At the age of 20, Jacob was enlisted in the Swiss Army. He hated it. He was the shortest person in his basic training group, but he was the fastest, and was in great shape! He says because of this, no one picked on him!
At the age of 23, Jacob served his 1st LDS mission in the Swiss-Austria mission. He has gone on to serve 3 additional missions with his eternal companion, two in the Freiberg Germany LDS Temple and one in the Swiss LDS Temple.
Jacob first laid eyes on Rosmarie Deck at her baptism in Basel Switzerland. He states in his history that he remembers thinking…WOW, that is a very beautiful chick! He was shy but that did not stop him from asking her out on several dates.
Jacob immigrated to America with his parents in April of 1957, settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. Meanwhile, Rosmarie served an LDS mission to Austria. Because he couldn’t get Rosmarie off his mind, they corresponded back and forth until in the spring of 1960, when he returned to Switzerland to marry her. They were sealed in the Swiss Temple May 21, 1960. He then brought her back to his home in Salt Lake City. Jacob and Rosmarie have lived in Salt Lake, Midvale, North Ogden, Harrisville, Syracuse and West Point, Utah.
Jacob owned his own business “Looser Construction” for many years and enjoyed designing and building beautiful homes and interiors…and often did so with the assistance of his brothers Joe and Nick.
Jacob enjoyed singing, dancing, working with his hands, gardening and serving others. He was quite the handyman and was very proficient at repairing things. He was a member of the Swiss Chorus Edelweiss for many years, and he performed with them on many occasions.
As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jacob served in many callings throughout his life, including as a temple ordinance worker, a sealer and as a counselor in the Frieberg Germany Temple presidency.
