Jacqueline Ann Loosli's Obituary
Jacqueline Ann Loosli
October 11, 1943 – August 3, 2021
Jacqueline Ann Loosli passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 77. She was surrounded by family and friends during her final days. Jacquie bravely battled multiple sclerosis (MS) the latter half of her life, serving as an example of perseverance to all those who knew her.
Born and raised in Silverton, Oregon, Jacquie was the oldest of two children born to John and Vanetta Hann. Jacquie was the teacher’s pet at the parochial school she attended as a young girl. She then attended Hudson Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington, and later studied at Weber State University.
Jacquie was a responsible and dedicated parent, providing a remarkable example for her children. While a single parent, she held responsible positions with Kmart and other retail stores managing new store openings in California and Utah. She held successful clerical and office manager positions with Yost and Interwest Corporations. As an owner of an A&W Drive-in in St. George, Utah, she trained many young people, including her own children, to be responsible and productive workers.
Jacquie enjoyed the little things in life—the first bloom in her flower garden, fresh snow in the Avenues, farming life in Hansel Valley, map navigating on road trips to California and the Oregon coast, weekends at the Logan cabin, Christmas and all the decorations of the season, and of course, a homemade meal prepared by and shared with her husband Stuart. But her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. Jacquie delighted in having her family spend time with her and loved a full house during the holidays. She was always treated with respect and kindness wherever she was and knew she was important to many.
Jacquie enjoyed her many passions like cross-stitching, baking, crafting, reading books and discussing them with her book-club friends, shopping, gardening, driving, and many other activities. She found peace in her faith for Christ, became a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed serving her church in various capacities.
Jacquie is survived by her husband Stuart Loosli; sister Pamela Harris (David); children Mark West (Loye), Todd West (Chris), Channon Shurtz Roundy (Leland), and Tansley Shurtz; stepchildren Stephen Loosli (Bethany), Annlouise Loosli Harris (Scott), Kenneth Loosli, and Phillip Loosli (Morgan); 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and the father of her eldest sons, Burton West. Jacquie is preceded in death by her daughter Shelby Ann Shurtz Gregory; parents John and Vanetta Hann; mother-in-law Annabelle Brown; and David E. Shurtz, the father of her three youngest children.
As a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Jacquie will be dearly missed.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held in her home at 170 O Street in Salt Lake City on August 8, 2021. Family members will convene privately from 3 to 5 p.m. (MT), and an open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. (MT). Casual attire preferred. Light refreshments will be served. The family humbly requests that attendees wear a mask while indoors or not eating. Well-spaced indoor and shaded outdoor spaces will be available so everyone can feel comfortable and welcome while celebrating the life of Jacquie Loosli. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to LDS Philanthropies, Volunteers of America, the Food Bank of Utah, or a charity of your choice.
