James (Jim) Huizingh's Obituary
James (Jim) Huizingh, 73, of South Jordan, Utah passed away from bladder cancer on August 09, 2022, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Jim was born to parents Herman and Stella Huizingh on September 17, 1948 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 1970 as a Metallurgic Engineer. Shortly after graduation Jim trained and flew as a helicopter pilot in the Army achieving the rank of Captain. Following his time in the Army, Jim led a very successful 45-year career as an engineer and manager for Texas Gulf and Morton Salt. After retirement he worked as a consultant for Ecuasal.
Jim married his sweetheart, Cynthia (Cindy) Hayter, in 1975, and they built a beautiful family and life together, which was his pride and joy. He is survived by Cindy as well as his sister, Linda and spouse David Male; son, Brandon and spouse Mitzi Huizingh; daughter, Kimberly and spouse Joseph Plott; son, John and spouse Sarah Huizingh; and five grandchildren: Grace Huizingh, Isabelle Plott, Cade Huizingh, Tristan Plott, and Lucas Huizingh, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Stella Huizingh.
Jim was known for his love of gardening, nature, singing, acting and photography. He had a passion for capturing the perfect photo, especially during the peak flower season in the Utah mountains, or of a stunning sky setting. He enjoyed playing various instruments, singing with a barbershop quartet, directing choirs and whistling a tune wherever he went. More than anything, Jim loved being with family and hearing the laughter of his grandchildren and everyone around him.
A Celebration on Life service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Canyons Church located at 7000 S 1700 E, Salt Lake City, Utah 84121.
