James Hyrum Jacobson's Obituary
James Hyrum Jacobson; son of Hyrum Gardell and Hazel Claudine Tidwell Jacobson, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Febraury 6, 1936. He passed away on June 20, 2023 at home in West Valley City under family and hospice care.
He married Annette Musig in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 20, 1963. They raised 5 children together 1 son and 4 daughters. He loved to take Annette out on dates and they had so much fun together. James also loved to fish at one time, watched sports on TV and games shows, reading books, writing letters, and sharing his personal experiences with others, and watching old movies to plays.
When he was in High School he was in the ROTC. His military training continued, after he came home from his mission in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Eastern State Mission NYC. He went through basic training in Fort Ord Company C in California and graduated. He was in the reserves at Fort Douglas. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from University of Utah and High School Teacher's Certificate. He also graduated from the Institute of Religion.
James taught 24 1/2 years in Public Schools in the Salt Lake District. He taught English, Speech, Drama, and History. He also had helped his Dad work in his Dad's service station when he was younger, including fixing the cars. He worked extra jobs all the way to theater and gas stations so Annette didn't have to work. He served in several different callings for the church. He loved his kids and grandkids very much, as well as other family members. He will be missed by everyone.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Annette M Jacobson; his sister, Claudell Anderson, and his parents.
He is survived by his children: Alan L Jacobson, Tamara J Schmidt, Sherry (Keith) Allred, Ruth M J Hepting, and Laura (Randy) Larsen; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
There will be a viewing at 11 am on Saturday, July 8th followed by the funeral at 12 pm at the Granger West 4th Ward East Building at 3305 South Scottsdale Drive, West Valley City, Utah 84120. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park 4385 West 4100 South, West Valley City on Sunday at 12 pm.
