OBITUARY FOR JAMES MADISON ACKLEY
James (Jim) Madison Ackley passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 89 years old. He had been living at Covington Assisted Living, in Lehi, for over a year. He loved the people at Covington, and the caretakers loved him.
Jim was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Karen and Wayne Ackley on November 15, 1936. He was the youngest of three sons. Jim grew up in Iowa and later joined the Air Force. His passion was in aeronautic engineering. He was an engineer throughout his entire life. Even toward the end he was always trying to mechanically rig things up. If something was broken, he would fix it.
Jim had two sons, Mark and Robert, by his first wife, Karen. He married Donna on July 4, 1974. Donna wanted a wedding day Jim would easily remember. They had many happy years together until Donna’s passing on March 30, 2022.
Jim spent his last 13 months in the care of Covington Assisted Living in Lehi, Utah. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care they provided for him. Jim never wanted to be in Assisted Living but he enjoyed his time at Covington because of the caring staff.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Wayne & Karen, brothers Alan & Steve, wife Donna, son Mark, and step daughter Tina.
We'd like to express appreciation for Jim's wonderful hospice nurse, Jared. He connected with Jim in a special way. Jared's care and concern will always be remembered.
