James (Jim) Lynn Nelson's Obituary
Our sweet, beloved, Father James (Jim) Lynn Nelson (78) passed away October 4th surrounded by family. James was born August 17th 1945 to Parents James D. Nelson and Lois Riley Nelson in Brigham City and was one of five children.
James graduated from Weber High and went on to serve for the US Army in Vietnam. He worked for Western Zirconium “Westinghouse” which manufactured products for the commercial nuclear fuel industry and the Military. He had 28 years of loyal, dedicated service when he retired.
He married Marianne van der Stappen in 1969, they had two daughters, Shauna and Kristi, they later divorced. He married LaRae Brown in 1985, had Daughter Raelyn, two stepsons and later divorced. Although his marriages ended, many holidays and birthdays were celebrated together as family and friendship remained.
Our Dad mentioned his biggest accomplishments in life were his daughters. He always made it known how proud he was, made us feel special, and that trickled down to his Grandchildren. Dad never forgot our birthdays, cards, chocolates on Valentine’s Day, bringing the kids fireworks on the 4th of July, calls checking in and to see what the Grandkids were up to. His big heart and nurturing ways will never be forgotten.
He loved the outdoors. Whether it be fishing on the lake with his brother Dee, camping, boating or sitting around the fire under the night sky. As a kid I remember watching him amongst the river, contemplating life, while he waited for the next fish to hook. He was a busy body and had to be doing something with his free time. He enjoyed helping friends with projects, building structures, painting or fixing cars. He was ever so generous with his time and skills.
A strong man who valiantly fought health battles, beating cancer twice, heart attack with bypass surgery, two strokes and lung disease which ultimately took his life. You are a true example of courage and bravery.
He will be remembered by his unconditional love, loving father, his witty jokes, entertaining stories, unfailing work ethic, generous smile, his willingness to help any in need, his strength and courage in all he endured and the ability to meet a friend anywhere he went.
He is survived by his daughters, Shauna Nelson, Kristi (Jason) Allred, Raelyn (Josh) Boman, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother Dee (Trudi) Nelson, sisters Sharon Groberg and Eileen (Alan) Davis. Preceded in death by his parents James and Lois Nelson, brother Craig H. Nelson.
We will be forever grateful to his friends who spent so much time with him, kept him laughing and always checked in. Louie, Randy, Julie, Carey, Jon, Kimmy and many others, thank you.
Our Family would like to give special thanks to Applegate Hospice, Annette, Brooke, Heather and Pastor Dan for bringing him peace towards the end.
Friends will be warmly invited to his Celebration of Life, on Saturday, November 11th, at Ramblin Roads restaurant, 1720 W 12th St., Ogden, UT 84404 from 3:30-5 pm.
