James Vincent Landry's Obituary
James Vincent Landry, (Jim), loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend was born to Vincent LaVere Landry and Anona Rose Lauritzen on May 6, 1957, at Hamilton AFB, California. In 2001 Jim met his future wife at Job Corps and fell in love instantly. In April of 2002 he married his sweetheart Lynette Wanner, and they have been thick as thieves ever since. On March 31, 2023, Jim passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 65.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lynette Landry, his daughter Jaime Stokes (George), grandchildren Isabella Landry and Miguel Olvedo-Landry, his stepdaughter Crystal Heck (Jake), grandchildren Ammon Ramos, Gavin Law, and Jaydin Heck. Jim is also survived by his mother, Anona Rose Landry, his siblings Leslie McClurg (Dave), Jeff Landry, Lori Landry and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Vincent LaVere Landry, paternal grandparents Joseph Ernest Landry and Ruth Jeanne Calder, and maternal grandparents Waldemar Anton Lauritzen and Bernettie Malinda Winn.
As a child Jim loved the outdoors, from the fishing, camping, and hunting trips taken with family to the scuba diving he began as a teenager, which carried over into his adult life. He enjoyed many scuba diving adventures and deep-sea fishing trips. He was skilled in leather working and was an avid reader, always learning and evolving. He was a great teacher and willing to teach anything he knew to others. At times you could even find him teaching some of his nieces how to clean fish in the backyard. As an avid enthusiast of weaponry his hobbies included but were not limited to fabricating blades for the beautiful knives he created and gifted to others to his enthusiasm for firearms.
Jim graduated from Layton High School in 1975 and went on to study at Weber State University. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Colorado Springs and in Germany for a time. Following his time in the Army he worked for Job Corps in Clearfield, Utah as a Counselor and loved working with the youth. He then went on to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office working as a Deputy Sheriff in Corrections. Jim was respected and loved by many whether they were co-workers or inmates because he showed kindness and respect to those he met. In 2017 he retired from law enforcement.
To know Jim was to know what a great guy he was, kind to a fault, generous enough to offer you the shirt off his back, never being afraid to express his love to those who were special to him, and we can’t overlook his sense of humor, he loved the shock and awe he got from those who were on the receiving end of his humor. He always had a story or a joke to tell and most of the time you didn’t know if he was serious or not until the punchline. Jim was a man who gave respect to all and was loved by those who knew him best. One of Jim’s famous sayings was, “You’re only as sharp as your knives”.
Jim was a laid back, casual guy and would appreciate it if you came as you are. No need to dress to impress.
