James E Ostler's Obituary
James E Ostler (1951-2023)
James E Ostler passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 72. Jim was born in Provo, UT in 1951 to Emer N. Ostler and Genevieve Prows Ostler, who loved him dearly. He was born with medical complications, which required special treatment throughout his childhood and into his adult life. In early childhood, Jim was in and out of the hospital, making it difficult to attend school regularly. Although doctors believed he wouldn’t make it past adolescence, Jim was determined to live a full life, and he did just that. Despite his health challenges, he never complained and always had a smile on his face.
Jim met the love of his life, Karen Page, and married on November 24, 1990 in Payson, UT. They were best friends and enjoyed spending time with his kids and family, taking drives, attending car races or just staying home and watching movies.
Jim had two sons, Kaisen and Andrew, one daughter, Erin, and three grand-daughters, Jane, Adalyn and Mia, whom he would refer to as “his girls”. Despite his constant medical battles, he would always take interest in how those around him were doing, sending love and humor.
It was so easy to love Jim. He would constantly crack jokes, make silly faces and get everyone to laugh. He was an extremely hard-worker, but he also loved to play. Growing up, he always had a passion for cars, and many of his hobbies involved them. You could often find him playing with R/C cars with his sons, building model cars, working on his own cars or watching his brother and nephew race cars at the track.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he loved attending the temple and his church services. Recently he had the opportunity to participate in the baptism and confirmation of his grand-daughter, something that he truly cherished and worked diligently to achieve.
Jim will always be remembered for his light-hearted nature, and for the way he loved all those around him. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, sibling and friend, and we will miss him daily. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Annette (Brian) Roundy. He is survived by his wife, Karen Ostler; three children: Kaisen Ostler, Erin Ostler and Andrew (Megan) Ostler; three grandchildren: Jane, Adalyn, and Mia; three siblings: Karen (Ken) Witt, Peggy (Stan) Spray and John (Barbara) Ostler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 4 at the Oquirrh 5th Ward Chapel, 5208 W. Cyclamen Way, West Jordan, UT 84081. A visitation will be held prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment will be at 2:30 PM at the Payson City Cemetery, 400 N. 800 E. Payson, UT 84651.
