James (Butch) William Stigers
September 27, 1944 – October 13, 2025
James “Butch” William Stigers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at 4:15 a.m., surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 27, 1944, to Fred and Bonnie Stigers, Butch lived a life of dedication, service, and faith. A longtime resident of Layton, Utah, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years as an aircraft mechanic and was a Vietnam veteran.
After his military service, Butch continued to give back to his community as a school crossing guard for elementary and junior high schools, where he found great joy in “adopting” countless students as his honorary grandchildren.
Butch was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived his faith through quiet service, kindness, and love for others.
He was married for 24 years to his devoted wife, Arleen Stigers, who stood by his side through life’s many chapters. Butch is survived by his children Guy, Kari, and Jennifer, and by his cherished grandchildren Justin, Ian, Mikelle, Whitney, Brooke, Hayden, Morgan, Sydnee, and Kira. He is also survived by his siblings Fred Francis, Mary Lou, David, Babs, Dee, Amos, Jean, Jackie, Judy, Barbara, Bonnie, Claude and Roger.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, at 1:00 p.m. at Camp Williams Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah. All who would like to attend are welcome to join in honoring and celebrating Butch’s life of service, faith, and love.
