Jana Wright McGettigan's Obituary
Jana Wright McGettigan was born September 26, 1964 in Provo, Utah to Douglas B. and Carolyn Knudsen Wright. Her mother was so excited to get another daughter in the family. At age eight, Jana was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained a faithful member throughout her life. She spent most of her childhood years in Clawson, Utah and graduated from Emery County High School. She also attained several certificates from the College of Eastern Utah and Ensign College. At age 21, Jana served an honorable full-time mission for her church in the Peru, Arequipa Mission. On June 16, 1990, Jana married Glenn McGettigan in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they have three children: Tyler Ammon, Samuel Moroni, and Kara Lynn. Jana has served in many church music callings, including as a member of the Church’s Cultural Arts Committee, but choir director—whether ward or stake—was her favorite. She has written numerous musical compositions, including two award-winning works. Jana collaborated with her brother Lance Wright and friend Dianne Kilburn to win the 2009 Deseret Dramatic Recognition Award.
Jana is survived by: husband Glenn, children Tyler, Sam, and Kara, bonus kids Kristin Majeroni, Rebecca Simons, Scott McGettigan, Brett McGettigan, and bonus grandchildren Tierra, Eli, Haylee, Aiden, Chase, Tatum, Eily, Madeleine; nine siblings and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents and numerous grandparents. After a 22-year battle with breast cancer, Jana has accepted the will of her Heavenly Father to join her loved ones on the other side of the veil.
Jana has requested that those attending her funeral please wear something purple.
