Jane Townes Myers Ritter
December 29, 1933 – October, 13 2025
Jane Townes Myers Ritter was born December 29, 1933 to loving parents Dorothy Townes Myers and Charles Baird Myers in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio. Her big sister Jean, five years her senior, welcomed her into the family and remained close to her throughout life.
Jane’s formative years were spent in Snug Harbor, a Myers family enclave in Wintersville, Ohio where she was surrounded by paternal grandparents Ross and Daisy Myers as well as lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. She graduated from Wintersville High School in 1950, after which she attended The Ohio State University for three years where she was enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. It was in Columbus that she met her future husband William W. Ritter, a student in the OSU dental program. The two were married on September 4, 1954 in Steubenville, Ohio. Their newlywed years were spent in Columbus, Ohio, Valley Forge, Pennsylvanian, and at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida where she gave birth to sons William (1955) and Scott (1956). She raised her family in Springfield, Ohio until 1964 when the family relocated to Boise, Idaho. Upon the death of her husband in 2003, she lived her later years with family in Utah Valley, Utah and in Boise, Idaho.
Jane had a life-long love of learning and spent many joyful hours searching out her Myers family genealogy. She was a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and pursued ties with several influential early families and founders of the United States. She had a keen interest in World War II history and had a large library that reflected this interest. Additional interests were anything Scottish, Bassett Hounds, the annual trip to Sun Valley, Idaho and Ohio State Buckeye football. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to all occasions that involved any of them.
Jane is survived by her children William and Scott Ritter, six grandchildren (Annie, Megan, Stephen, Geoffrey, Amy, and Hayden), thirteen great grandchildren, and niece Joan Janson. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill (Ritter), parents, and sister Jean Janson.
