Janice Brady Preston Weight's Obituary
Janice Brady Preston Weight passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Springville, UT on September 2, 2025.
Janice (aka Jan, Jani) was born February 6, 1954, in American Fork, UT, to Lester M. Brady and Jackie Thornton Brady. She was also welcomed by brother, Alan, and sister, Leslie.
Jan grew up in Pleasant Grove, UT, attended Central Elementary, Pleasant Grove Junior High and Pleasant Grove High School. She went to Utah State University and to Cosmetology School. Jan worked as a hairstylist for more than 40 years, making lifelong friends with coworkers and clients. She loved making homemade gifts, clothing, scrapbooking, wire wrap jewelry, and many other hobbies and crafts.
Jan married H. Wayne “Rudy” Preston and together they had two children, Joshua Ryan and Elija Daniel. Wayne also adopted and helped raise Jan’s daughter, Sara Lin. After they divorced, Jan married Alan D. Weight and they spent 38 wonderful years raising their children. They lived a happy, fun and adventurous life skiing, sailing, hiking, camping and rockhounding.
Jan worked hard to create a beautiful home filled with love, creating many fun memories for all of her family, including several “adopted” children she loved.
Mom, Grandma, Aunt Jan and Jani are some of her beloved names. She exemplified service to others, unconditional love and devotion, sacrifice and an enduring spirit to the end. She taught her children many life lessons, to love life and enjoy the wonderful world in which we live. She made a positive difference in numerous lives - anyone who knew Jan loves her and will miss her dearly.
Jan is survived by her children Josh Preston, Eli (Molly) Preston; stepchildren Jason (Molly) Weight, Adra Weight, Kyle Weight; grandchildren Kiaya (Tyler) Wilson, Tayja Rapier, Trevor Rapier, Venus Weight; great grandson Ryder Wilson and two additional great grandchildren (twins) expected in November; brother Alan Brady and sister Leslie Brady Hall. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and daughter, Sara Lin Preston.
A Celebration of Jan’s Life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the Elevation Hospice team for their tender care and exemplary service to Jan.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the GoFundMe - https://gofund.me/63bada316
