Jeffrey Louis Hutchison's Obituary
Jeffrey Louis Hutchison was born to Gary DeWayne Hutchison and Mary Ann Millard on April 12, 1962 in Seattle, Washington. He was born at 9:20am, just one minute before his identical twin brother, Joseph, making Jeff the much more handsome and wiser brother.
Jeff grew up with a near constant companion of his twin brother Joe. They fished together, swam in the lake together, and were always found causing trouble together. As a teenager, Jeff worked at many different fast food restaurants and finally scraped enough money together to buy a 1972 Chevy Vega. On his first outing Jeff combined two of his favorite hobbies, fireworks and business, and bought fireworks and then sold them to his neighborhood buddies making a $60 profit. Jeff has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, leading him to start several businesses and currently holds several software patents.
After graduating from Kent Meridian High School in Kent, Washington he went on to study at Utah State University in Logan, Utah earning his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Throughout his life he worked in computer and software based jobs. He thrived while working in international business and frequently took his wife or children with him on business trips, most notably to Beijing, China and Honolulu, Hawaii. Providing for his family was one of his most important priorities and he was willing to sacrifice anything to make sure those he loved were taken care of.
While living in Kent, he met and married Jennifer Giles in the Seattle LDS temple on March 23, 1984. They loved eating out at Taco Time and would often be found splitting a soft taco. He loved her more than anyone else in the world and always wanted to be the “Celestial Jeff” she knew he could become.
His children will attest to his love for sweets, especially circus peanuts, black licorice and Dr. Pepper. He loved working out in the yard and had a knack for digging very nice holes. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his kids and lighting fireworks. He loved having a good time and sharing classic Dad Jokes.
Jeff was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santiago, Chile in the early 1980s. While there, he served faithfully even though his appendix burst and was removed and he also endured a bout of typhoid fever.
Jeff served in his ward and held many callings throughout his life. Most of his callings were with the youth as a seminary teacher or as the most epic and devoted Scout Master, helping countless young men earn their Eagle Scout Awards. He never complained about waking up early for seminary or preparing and going on all the campouts, even in the cold and snow. He was also a counselor in the bishopric, a ward mission leader, primary and nursery teachers and an executive secretary.
He joyfully and dutifully served in the Chicago Temple while living in Wisconsin, the Louisville Temple while in Kentucky, and the Jordan River Temple while living in Utah. Jeff always wanted to stay close to the Lord and knew the temple held the greatest blessings available on the earth.
Jeff’s desire to constantly improve was contagious and he strived to be the best person he could be, given his unique circumstances and experiences. He always attended service projects and never turned down an opportunity to help someone fix their cars or computers, complete odd jobs around the house or do yard work. Jeff was very friendly and was constantly on the lookout to help those in need, whether he knew them or not. He loved his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, and tried to follow Their example to love others.
For the past eight years, Jeff had been managing multiple diseases, including Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Osteoarthritis. This often caused him unbearable pain but he never let that interfere with his desire to help those around him and love his family.
After a few days of not feeling well, Jeff collapsed early Thursday morning on October 6 complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath due to a saddle pulmonary embolism. Shortly after he was in the ambulance, his heart stopped and CPR was started. Resuscitation efforts continued at the hospital but he could not be revived. Jeff was 60 years old.
Jeff is survived by his sweetheart and wife, Jennifer Giles; his eight children, Jason, Brittany (Brandon) Garrett, Michael, Ryan, Tanner (Whitney), Hailey, Cassidy, and Addison; his six grandchildren, Sydney, Adaline, Grace, Charles, Quinn, and Logan; his mother, Mary Ann Jewell; his stepfather, Glen Jewell; his siblings Julie (Leo) Boucher, John, and twin brother Joe. He is preceded in death by his father Gary and his brother James.
We all are honored to call him a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a friend. He will be profoundly missed and his legacy of service and love will live on.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the LDS Stake Center at 3113 West 13400 South, Riverton, Utah at 11:00am.
