Jerry Bruce Hokanson's Obituary
It is with great sadness that on Sunday October 2nd, 2022 Jerry Bruce Hokanson 74 graduated from this
life of being a true walking miracle and ended many years of suffering and gaining his wings.
Jerry was born June 17th, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Elmer and Lucille Allen Hokanson at Holy
Cross Hospital. He grew up in Sugarhouse and graduated from East High School. He started school at the
University of Utah and was then drafted by the Army to Vietnam. While serving as infantry on the front
line he hit a landmine which changed his life at 19, leaving him a 100% disabled veteran with a purple
heart.
Jerry astounded and amazed so many with his resilience and determination to overcome his great
disabilities. He worked many years at recovering and then going back to school at the U of U to earn his
degree in Political Science, even when the VA had great doubts that he could complete this,
Jerry loved skiing in Park City with the DAV and was so proud of his being able to ski the black diamonds
and teach his kids to ski and snowboard. Square dancing was a passion of his and he traveled to many
states to participate with his many friends. He loved anything to do with the Civil War and its history,
meeting up for coffee and joking. He was a true jokester and had the loudest most infectious laugh. His
laugh and jokes will not soon be forgotten!! Jerrys greatest love and accomplishment was his children.
There was nothing that he wouldn't do for them to see them happy, they kept his going and young at
heart.
Thank You for giving Your Life for this Country. You are truly honored and loved by many.
