I have some wonderful memories of Uncle Jerry going back seven decades. I spent lots of time in his home(s) growing up, thanks to Melvin, my best buddy cousin. I thought the galvanized bathing tub and even the outhouse were cool novelties, but I was very impressed that Jerry could build his own modern house, and I ended up staying there my freshman year at BYU--I always felt very welcome, and he and Aunt Fern insisted they would take no money for the board and room (a hopeless cause, at any rate). Also, Jerilene made me bean sandwiches to take to school for lunch, which I came to like, although I'm not sure she inflicted them on her father. I also remember the delight and pride he took in those pigeons. They made him smile, and his smile was infectious. Such a good man!
