Jessica Elena Fowkes' Obituary
Jessica Elena Fowkes, 52, returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully on November 21, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father.
Jessica was born on Aug. 5, 1970, in Trujillo, Peru. She was the oldest of 4 sisters. She came to America at age 36 in February 2007. On March 31, 2007, she was married to Douglas Craig Fowkes. It wasn’t in God’s plan for them to have children in this life, however Jessica loved being around children. She was especially fond of attending birthday parties for her nieces and nephews and picking out their presents. She adored singing “Happy Birthday” in Spanish to her loved ones. She cherished being around family in Utah & Peru. She made many trips back home to Peru to be with her family there.
One of Jessica’s greatest accomplishments, and her husband’s proudest, was the day she became an American Citizen. The two of them made flash cards together, and studied consistently while eating dinner. The time came that Jessica was confident she could pass the test, and she did. Her studies paid off. On October 12, 2016, Jessica became an official citizen of the United States of America.
Jessica battled cancer just two years into her marriage. She hadn’t reached 40 years old yet. She wasn’t expected to live, but went on to thrive another 13 years. She battled this cancer and came out on top. Her road was long, hard, and painful. She went through chemo and radiation, which caused her to lose her beautiful long black hair. Her doctors didn’t give her any hope of ever walking again. Jessica was determined she would. She started in a wheelchair, advanced to a walker and then (by leaning on Doug) began walking on her own again. She conquered! Unfortunately, Jessica later suffered from mini strokes, dementia, and other challenges for years that eventually led to bleeding on the brain. She passed peacefully in her own home with her husband near her side.
We want to thank all of Jessica’s doctors, nurses, caretakers, hospice, friends, neighbors, family and all others who have all been there to attend to Jessica throughout the years, especially during her last few days on earth. Her husband Douglas, was with her every step, every trial, every health challenge, every triumph, every moment. Their saying together was “Always and forever”, and they treasured every moment together. Jessica and Douglas had a wonderful companionship and marriage. She will be missed by so many. Jessica is survived by her husband, Douglas, her mother, Elena, and her four sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the LDS chapel at 5380 W. 5400 S. Kearns, UT 84118.
