Joan Pearce Kenney's Obituary
Joan Pearce Kenney peacefully passed away on April 30, 2024, in Vineyard, Utah at the age of 90. She was born on November 2, 1933, in Jacksonville, Alabama.
Joan was a remarkable woman who was known for her wit, intelligence, and sense of humor. After her formative years in Alabama, she made her way to Kentucky and then eventually California where she met and married the love of her live, Jim. Joan had a long career at McDonald Douglas/Hughes Aircraft as a computer operator, though she more often spoke of her beginnings there as a roller skating messenger. Together, she and Jim raised one daughter, Terrie. After nearly 40 years in Southern California, they eventually retired in Las Vegas, NV. In the last years of her life, Joan resided in Utah with her family.
A true Southern Belle, she adored her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always showering them with her love and generosity. Joan was a dedicated member of many card groups throughout her life, treasuring the friendships she made therein. She enjoyed reading, was always working on a puzzle, and had a keen interest in stocks and trading. She took pleasure in taking her great-grandchildren on scooter rides, loved to travel, and delighted in hunting for treasures at thrift stores.
Joan is survived by her loving daughter, Terrie Nitta, her cherished grandchildren Chelsea Loyborg (Alex), Logan Nitta (Melissa), Gavin Nitta (Kelli), Pearce Nitta, and her adored great-grandchildren Aidan, Adam, Chad, Declan, Rudy, Calan, Jamie, Clara, Maika, and Nathan. She is also survived by her dear sister Myris Prickett and many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her husband James Leo Kenney, her mother Lavonne Lillian Blackburn, her father Joseph Rhea Pearce, and her son-in-law LeRoy Nitta.
In honoring Joan's wishes, a quiet internment ceremony will be held with her family at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. Premier Funeral Services in Orem, Utah assisted with arrangements. Joan will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
