Joann Curtis Downey's Obituary
Joann Curtis Downey passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2025. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.
Born on September 27th, 1930, in Richfield, Utah, Joann was the daughter of William Reed and Gladys Barney Curtis. She grew up in Utah County, where the family settled in American Fork. Joann graduated from American Fork High School and later worked for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator.
Joann enjoyed a close connection with family. From vacations to large reunions, her siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins, and children were her greatest joy. Joann would often travel with her husband and two children on fishing and camping trips, returning home with a carload of rocks collected along the way. Her “rock gardens” will continue to remind us of her delight in finding a unique treasure.
Joann is survived by her husband, Raymond; son, Scott; step-daughter Anita Heath; grandchildren, Caitlin and Daniel Maddox; and brother Newell Curtis. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Maddox, and brother, Lynn Curtis
A celebration of life will be held at the American Fork 4th Ward Church (455 E 300 N, American Fork, UT 84003) on September 5th, 2025, at Noon.
