Joel James Affleck's Obituary
Joel James Affleck, 57, passed quietly with his wife, two daughters, grandson, and Mother-In-Law by his side at his home in Pl. Grove, Utah on Wed, Aug 12, 2020.
Joel was born January 10, 1962 in Provo to Douglas and Marcine (Deason) Affleck.
Joel married his wife Shalane Gurney on Febuary 20, 1982. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Chellsea and Mallory. Joel was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.
Joel worked as a computer network engineer for many years which let him travel to many different countries that he really enjoyed. Joel loved the outdoors, he loved hunting, fishing, camping, and especially taking his kids and their friends out on the lake every weekend during the summer on the boat, playing with water toys until sunset. He especially loved the Lake Powell trips the family went on. Joel was also an avid BYU football fan, he had season tickets for many years and never missed a game.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Shalane, also his two daughters, Chellsea (Travis) Taylor, and Mallory Affleck. At his time of passing, he had 3 grandchildren, Tristan and Gracie Taylor, and Hayden Affleck. He is also survived by his Mother Marcine (Deason) Affleck, brother David (Donnette) Affleck, sister Janna (Paul) Overly, mother-in-law Carolyn (Colledge) Gurney. He was preceded in death by his father Douglas Affleck, father-in-law Donald Kent Gurney and by his beloved grandson, Ryker James Affleck.
Joel didn't want a viewing or funeral so we are respecting his wishes and just holding a graveside service. Date and time will be put on social media once his ashes are returned to us.
