Joel Travis McKenzie's Obituary
Joel Travis McKenzie, 46, of South Salt Lake, Utah passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on December 17, 2025. Born on August 20, 1979 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Madison Douglas McKenzie and Julie Ann Towler.
Joel enjoyed his younger years growing up in Idaho with his sister and many brothers whom he loved very much. Joel moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in his teen years and met the mother of his children, Dawn Masson. They had two children, Austin Taylor Masson and Gabriella Ann McKenzie.
Joel was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Rosalie Fabiola Martinez and Jazmyn “Maze” Rae Martinez, along with their mom Gaby. They truly were his life, and he was so happy to be able to spoil them for holidays, birthdays, and even for the casual sleepover to give Mom a break. The girls loved their “Grandpa” so much, and he loved them.
Joel worked in the automotive industry and had a vast knowledge of the automotive world, but his true skill was with words. A customer would come in questioning the quote and, after speaking with Joel, leave happy with their decision, his personal phone number, and a new best friend. Joel was respected by many friends and coworkers who became family to him.
Joel met the love of his life, Pamela Lewis, and they built a beautiful life of 15 years together. Joel was as much a father to Pam’s kids, Alexa Worthen and Ashton Loomis, as he was to his very own—helping coach football, attending school functions, and every baseball game, vacations, etc.
Joel is survived by his parents, Madison Douglas McKenzie and Julie Ann Towler; his daughter, Gabriella Ann McKenzie; his two adored granddaughters, Rosalie and Jazmyn “Maze” Martinez; sister Amy Miller; brothers DJ Rhoades, Shawn (Robin) McKenzie, Scott (Erin) McKenzie, Bryon (Hope) Towler, Josh (Ashley) Towler, and Isaac (Heaven) Miller. Joel is preceded in death by his “Superman” son, Austin Taylor Masson, and his best friend “Tank.”
Until we meet again Joel—Dad, Son, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, and Love. We love you so much. You will be missed every day.
We will announce a “Celebration of Life” at a later date and time. One in Idaho Falls, ID and one in Tooele, UT.
