Johanna Mary Miller's Obituary
Johanna was born in San Pedro, CA the eldest of three girls. She spoke so highly and fondly of her dear, courageous mother Mary Nancarrow Carle. She and Lewis are examples to us in their 68 years of marriage and eternal love.
She described herself as "deriving sharp feelings of pleasure, both as a spectator and performer from the arts: music, paintings, sculpture, handicrafts, and the intangible art of compassionate service, I cannot believe that I am wholly shallow or merely skimming life's surface. In addition, my craving for knowledge is, and always has been, so intense that I sometimes feel that it is a physical rather than a mental need."
All who know her would agree her life was defined by the compassionate service she gave as a mother, scholar, social worker, and faithful-Christ centered Latter Day-Saint. She was intelligent and successful; a graduate from the University of Utah and infamously earned "9/10ths of her PhD” from the University of Kansas. Her love of knowledge and books lent to her children and grandchildren's success. Her wisdom, counsel and wonderfully quick wit will be remembered and treasured until we meet again.
Johanna is a survivor; of orphanage life, cancer, and much trial which she faced with poise, grace, and faith. She is survived in this life by her spouse Lewis L. Miller, their five children, and many adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her mother and two sisters.
A memorial will be held Saturday, June 18th, 2016 at Crescent Ridge 6th Ward, 11164 South Londonderry Dr. (1515 East) Sandy Utah 84092. The viewing will be from 10-11:30 and the funeral will be at 12-1pm.
