John P Ingersoll's Obituary
John P. Ingersoll, known to friends and family as “Pete”, passed away on August 25, 2016 as a result of complications from hip replacement surgery. Pete was born to J. Phelps Ingersoll and Elizabeth Ruth Wilcox and raised in Middletown, CT. After graduating from Williams College in 1952 with a BA in Geology, Pete married his longtime sweetheart, Anne Berkley Moody of Old Saybrook, CT. The couple moved to Montgomery, Alabama where Pete was stationed as a Second Lieutenant at the Maxwell Air Force Base.
In 1957, Pete received an MBA from Harvard. He, Anne and their young family moved to Long Island, NY where he began a career on Wall Street in investment banking. He was a well-reputed Institutional Financial Analyst. His Wall Street career spanned 33 years and his opinions on metals and mining were highly valued and well regarded. For over a decade he was appointed to Institutional Investors Analyst All-Star Team. Pete’s final Wall Street role was as a Senior Vice President of the metals and mining equity group at Lehman Brothers.
In 1992 Pete retired from Lehman Brothers and he and Anne relocated from Manhasset, NY to a mining town in southwest Colorado called Telluride. In Telluride Pete served as the managing partner of Ingersoll, Parker & Longabaugh, a mining company consulting firm. Until recent years, he remained active in the industry, as a consultant and as Director of both Piedmont Mining, and Getchell Gold. Not long after the move to Telluride, Anne began a battle with ovarian cancer and Pete lovingly cared for her until her death in 1999. They were married for 46 years.
Pete was a passionate man who enjoyed helping others. He was incredibly well read, curious, authentic and thoughtful, and will be missed by all those who loved him.
