John Steven Nelson's Obituary
John Steven Nelson (Steve) passed away in his home January 11, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in Richfield, Utah in 1938 to John and Rowene Stevenson Nelson and was raised in Layton, Utah. He met and married his wife, Karen, in 1959 and they were blessed with 63 years together and 4 sons. He coached and loved watching his two older sons, Mike and Todd, in baseball and watching his middle son, Cory play the violin in the school orchestra. His passion was fly fishing which he enjoyed with his youngest son, Shaun. He was always a joker and loved to make people laugh with his wit and was very talented- from building houses, laying tile, designing and building remote control airplanes and making fly fishing rods and flies. He loved spending time outdoors with his family whether camping, boating, or simply enjoying his backyard on his deck. He worked as a systems analyst for many years until starting a tile business with his boys. Steve was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Michael John and is survived by his wife, Karen, 3 sons, Todd (Robyn), Cory, Shaun (Shannon), 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, one brother, Keith, one sister, Shauna (Lynn) Wright, and many loving nieces and nephews. On January 21, 2023 there will be a celebration of his life at Crescent North Stake 949 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
