Kevin, you will always remain in my heart and be my hero. I have many fond memories of you as a young boy playing baseball and football. You were an excellent athlete and excelled in all that you put your mind to doing.

I loved watching you grow into the handsome man, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend of many. You always had a way of seeing the Brightside to life. You had an easygoing personality and an infectious smile. You never ended a conversation with me without saying, “I Love You, Mom.”

You loved selling cars with your father, John Thomas. You both were very good at it and made a great living.

You will always be my hero. I was so proud to watch you excel in sports at a very young age. You played All-Star Baseball and were their superstar pitcher. You also played football and were very competitive. I loved watching you grow into a handsome man, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

One of my favorite traditions that you & I enjoyed was me bringing you lunch to the car lot, 3345 Cars, next to Gino’s on State Street. On Sunday early morning, on my way to work at Sears Roebuck & Company, I would bring you a crockpot roast beef dinner with all the fixings ready to plug in and cook all day to feed you and the kids.

I could go on and on about what a wonderful son you were and how very proud I am of the caring and loving man you became. You loved your family more than anything.

Although I had not seen Kevin for quite some time, I can still see his beautiful smile. He was always so fun to be around.
I am so grateful Lisa came into my life 40 years ago and I was introduced to her beautiful family! I loved all the family lunches I was invited to where we shared so many memories.
Kevin, you will be missed, but we will keep your memory alive.

Uncle Kevin-
I’m so sad you’re gone, but know your in a better place. I am hoping you’ve been reunited with your beautiful baby girls.
A common theme when I look back of memories with you, was that you were always happy. You were always bringing the fun and making sure all were having a good time. You had this coy voice whenever you had to be firm and you always sounded so sweet.
My favorite memories were hoping in your RV and going on adventures; camping, Lagoon, Bear Lake, etc. I loved going to your house and playing with Paige and Lundon.
My favorite memory was when you guys stayed with us in Las Vegas and we had a special father/daughter date night to the Rio VooDoo lounge followed by going to the NSYNC concert.
You were so fun, full of life, ready for anything and we’re so patient with all us kids.
You will be missed down here, but I know and trust you are where you’re meant to be.

I will always remember my Uncle Kevin with a smile. As someone who was warm and who was always excited to see you. When we were kids, I was very close with his daughter, my cousin, Lundon.

During my childhood, when I would stay in Salt Lake, we would have epic all-nighters where we'd play Mario Cart and hang out in her room. Uncle Kev was always glad to have me over and always made me feel at home. He loved his dogs and I remember when they got a Cocker Spaniel named Callie. We spent Christmas together that year at Grandma Midge's with the new pup bringing us all joy.

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that wonderful trip that we all took together as a family to Mexico. Kevin lit up a room and brought so much fun to our adventures there.

He was a tender, kind, and loving man. I will miss him.

I will always remember Kevin as a friend – a true friend. He was always there for me, through thick and thin. No questions asked.

My friendship with Kevin lasted over 40 years – quite an accomplishment for me, a Military kid, who moved so many times that most friendships were short lived.

The first time I saw Kevin Thomas was in 1977. I was driving along State Street and saw a beautiful, white, 280Z, with all the options, drive past me. Like a dog after a bone, I followed the car and pulled up beside it. I complimented the driver, Kevin, who gave me generous tour of the 280Z.

A few minutes later, a handsome guy pulled up in a yellow 450SL with sheep skin covered seats. That was John Thomas, Kevin’s dad.

Kevin and John gave me the royal treatment and introduced me to their used car business. Before you know it, I was the proud owner of a metallic gray ’74 280Z and partnered with Kevin for a while, buying and selling cars.

We would drive for hours in search of used cars that needed some TLC; cars we could repair and spruce up for sale at a good profit. The hours on the road passed in great conversation, joking around, and comfortable silences –we bonded.

Eventually I met the whole family. Within a couple of years, I married Kevin’s little sister, Lisa. The marriage did not last. The friendship did.

I moved away. We stayed in touch and started a Christmas tradition. For the past 30 some years Kevin and I always spoke on the phone at Christmas time, and we always sang a duet of the song, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” It became our tradition.

For those of you too young to know the song, it became popular during World War II when soldiers far from home yearned to be with their friends and family. Sentimental, yes. Yet somehow meaningful to two hard-headed, car loving, crazy guys who, over the years, saw each other through many joys and hardships.

In recent years I would sometimes get a call from Porsha or Aja, my daughters, asking me to give Uncle Kevin a call because he was going through a difficult time. No matter the trouble, no matter how much time has passed since we last spoke, there was an instant connection between us as if no time had passed at all.

Kevin. I treasure our friendship and will always remember you with love in my heart. For the first time in over 30 years, we will not share our duet on the telephone. I will miss that, yet I know that you will have arrived at Home in time for Christmas and that I will always have that memory. Rest in Peace, my friend.

THE FOLLOWING TRIBUTE IS FROM OUR COUSIN JILL PATTON:

I feel so lucky to have known my wonderful cousin, Kevin Thomas. The entire family has a special “joie de vivre.“ Kevin permeated our childhood with a twinkle in his eyes putting joyful magic into our Hearts!

He was the “Cool Guy” everyone wanted to be him or date him. He could sell ice cream to the Eskimos with his Integris easy manner, just like his Dad did. Kevin gave everyone a sense of inclusion and warmth.

His handsome good looks and charisma were not wasted, he excelled at all he touched. Our family song reminds me of him,” Those Were the Days My Friend” we thought they’d never end we’d sing and dance forever and a day.

Dearest cousin Kevin, you are adored and remembered forever and a day! Sending prayers and love to his beautiful mother Midge, sisters Lisa and Leslie and the rest of the Family.

Kevin was not only my cousin, he was the big brother I never had. I was always so proud of Kevin, as a young girl I would wait for the school bus, however, no school bus for this girl. Kev would pull up in his Corvette, say,”Come on Kiddo, let’s get you to school. The looks I got from my classmates as we pulled up to my junior high school was every teenage girls dream. Kevin was so handsome. I got questioned over and over about who the cute guy driving the corvette was. I’ll admit it was always a bit disappointing when I had to come clean, shrug my shoulders and pronounce ,”Oh Kevin”, giggling nervously…He’s just my cousin, who happened to be quite the ladies man, even though he was just a teenager himself.

I could write a book about the great times Kevin and I had together. Those memories will help carry me through this incredibly difficult time. Just like Kevin watching out for me as a young girl, I know he will be watching over those of us left behind, only to be reunited one day.

What a homecoming that will be, until then, we will all continue to love Kevin and miss him more than any words can convey.
