Jon Rex Brown's Obituary
Jon Rex Brown died peacefully at home on May 29, 2023. He was born in Springfield, Missouri on December 13, 1940, to Charles and Marie Brown.
Though born in Missouri, Jon’s parents moved the family to Utah when Jon was in high school. It was there that Jon met Julie Penelope Christensen in a West High School production of Brigadoon. The couple was married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 10th, 1960.
Jon and Julie had three wonderful boys who each passed shortly after coming to this earth. They then adopted Terri Jean Clayson in Concord, CA, and later had Wendi Marie Bevan and Misty Laurel Brown.
Jon was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various church callings, including serving in the stake Sunday School Presidency, on the High Council, in the Bishopric, and as High Priest Group Leader, Young Men’s President, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. At 26 years old, Jon was ordained a member of the Seventy by Richard L. Evans.
Jon had a long and fulfilling career in real estate, serving as the President of Western Land, Vice President and Asset Manager of Valley Bank, and Director of Enforcement and Chief Investigator for the State of Utah’s Division of Real Estate.
Jon was an accomplished athlete who competed in track & field while in high school, enjoyed water skiing and softball all his life, and won multiple gold medals in the Huntsman Senior Games for Softball. He also had a love of cars, owning over 100 in his lifetime, with his favorite being his green Oldsmobile 442.
Jon enjoyed traveling, whether it was driving a motorhome or taking his “Avalon” across the country to see historical sites and antique shops. Jon is remembered for his dry wit, infectious laugh, and consistent service to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Brown, his daughters Terri, and Misty, his 11 grandchildren, and his 4 great-grandchildren. Jon is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Rosemarie Sewell, Jo Pack, and Toni White, his daughter Wendi Marie Bevan, as well as his sisters-in-law Shirley Brady and Patt Brown, and his son-in-law David Dean Ostlund.
