In Loving Memory of a Remarkable Soul: Jorge “Coco” Luis Vazquez
April 25, 1952 - July 31st, 2023
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Jorge “Coco” Luis Vazquez. Born in Oruro, Bolivia, on April 25th, 1952 to Jorge “Papi Coco” and Leonor “Doña Nona” Vazquez. He touched the lives of countless individuals as a teacher, martial arts instructor, mentor, and businessman. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Coco” was a caring husband to Ruby Lynn Johnson Vazquez (deceased) and to Catalina Flores Valdez Vazquez, and an extraordinary father to his cherished children Erik, JJ, Kiera, “Nonis” Leonor, and Tiara. And grandfather to Savannah, Dean and Jameston. His love and dedication to his family knew no bounds, and took immense pride in watching each of his children grow and succeed.
He will be remembered for his exceptional achievements, including a Champion of Excellence Gold Medal winner for Teacher of the Year by Michigan State University and Hispanic Of The Year. His passion for education and mentorship inspired countless individuals to reach their fullest potential.
“Coco” was a man of integrity, kindness, and compassion, whose warmth and charisma made him a cherished friend to all who crossed his path. His infectious laughter, wise counsel, and generous heart will be dearly missed by his surviving siblings Juan, Peter, Silvana, and Toni, who shared a lifelong bond of love and support.
A private service will be held in his honor for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DonorsChoose.org, a cause supporting teachers and students.
Rest in peace, dear Jorge “Coco” Vazquez, knowing you have forever left your mark on the world.
