Joseph Michael Barnes' Obituary
Joseph Michael Barnes (Mike) passed away on April 17, 2021 at his home in Draper, Utah surrounded by his family. Mike was born April 7, 1959 in Heber, Utah to Joe and Joan Barnes. He married Peggy Baker on July 28, 1978.
Mike was a member of the Local 3 Operating Engineers Union and was employed by Geneva Rock when he first became ill. There wasn’t a piece of heavy machinery Mike couldn’t run. He got his start with heavy equipment working for the family business, Barnes Excavating. Mike was a family man first, there was nothing more important to him, but close behind was his love of Nascar.
Mike was proud of all of his kids but would tell anyone who would listen if he could’ve had his grandkids first, he would have. They were his pride and joy.
Mike is survived by his wife Peggy. His kids Melissa, Colby (Steff), and Shawn. His grandchildren: Alex, Deron, Xavier, Brystol, Everett, KayLynne, Zakary, Rylee and Kodee. As well as his best fur buddy Zena. He is also survived by his sisters LuWanna (Dennis)Phillips, Jennifer Lawrence and Sister-in-law Sally Barnes. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, brother, nephew and his loyal companion Zandy Rose the pug.
A memorial will be held at a later date due to the pandemic. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with expenses the link has been included below.
