Joshua Hemmert's Obituary
On Wednesday, August 25, 2021, Joshua Hemmert, loving brother and friend passed
away at the age of 43. Josh was born on October 18, 1977, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gayel Petrie and Roger Hemmert.
Josh had a passion for Civil War reenactment, and he shared the love of that with his late mother Gayel. At the tender age of 8 years old, he became acquainted with guns, military weaponry, and the Tiger Tank from World War 2. This interest later evolved into a lifelong, insatiable appetite for historical knowledge. Through his historical research, he discovered and was very proud of his Viking and German heritage. He had many different hobbies depending on which group of friends he was with, such as fishing, survival preparedness, camping, the outdoors, shooting guns, ammunition casting and reloading, swords, and other medieval weaponry, BBQ cooking, brewing, frisbee golf, and playing D & D. Josh was a proud Eagle scout award. He also had his ministering license in order to officiate the weddings of his friends. He loved to attend the Payson Scottish Highland Games and appreciated all things Scots, including Celtic and Scottish art and music. Josh was a Freemason, and his greatest Masonic achievement was gaining the position of Worshipful Master at his lodge.
Josh is survived by his calico kitty Tazi, older sisters Lori Grant (Brian), Lisa Manners (Chris), Athena Jones (Tom), brothers Israel Hemmert (Jessica), Nate Nielsen (Stephaney), his father Roger Hemmert, and many nieces and nephews.
Josh was preceded in death by his mother Gayel Petrie, his youngest sister Ashley Hemmert, and nephew, Ben Jones.
Josh’s life celebration will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Masonic Temple in Bountiful Utah. Condolences from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The service will begin at 11:00 am. Uintah Masonic Lodge - 143 West 1000 North Bountiful, Utah.
