Joyce Hill's Obituary
Our dearest wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Joyce Hill passed away September 17th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 28th, 1940 in Skipperville, Alabama to Robert Wright and Mary Katherine Scott Benton. She was the 2nd oldest of 6 children, living in Alabama until her family relocated to West Layton, Utah when she was 4 years old. She married Vernon Hill and together they blended a family of 6 children – Pamela Hulse, Noel Cahoon (Kristie), Brian Hill (deceased), Brent Hill, Bruce Hill (Paige), and Brenn Hill (Sylina). She has 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions throughout her life. She served as Relief Society President, Stake Primary President, Stake Young Women’s President, and many others. She was a true child of God - holding a strong testimony of her heavenly father and leading her life in the footsteps of her savior Jesus Christ.
She was employed by the Utah Power and Light and held various insurance office manager positions until she ‘retired’ in 2000. She was an extremely skilled seamstress, crafting beautiful wedding dresses for daughters, granddaughters, and nieces. Her skills as a quilter were second to none, sewing many heirloom quilts gifted to family and friends that will be cherished forever. She was a gifted teacher and shared these talents freely with many lucky children and adults alike over the years.
She was the definitive example of beauty, style, and grace. She was a woman of impeccable integrity and honesty. She was selfless to a fault, and her greatest joys were helping or witnessing the success of her children and grandchildren. She loved a good laugh and as a ‘southern’ girl could recite a story as well as any of her southern brothers. She made many trips to Alabama to visit her extended family; these trips were always considered some of the greatest highlights of her life.
We would like to thank the incredible network of family, neighbors, friends, and her ‘little southern angel’ (you know who you are) who helped keep her comfortable and cared for, allowing her to close out her final days at the home she loved so much. Mom, we will miss you more than words can say, but are comforted to know you are free from pain and now reunited with so many loved ones gone before you.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, Sept 22nd from 6-8 p.m. at the Hooper 3rd Ward, located at 5601 S. 6100 W, Hooper Utah. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, Sept 23rd at 11 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in Eden, Utah.
