Julie Gwendoline Talbot Chapman's Obituary
Julie Gwendoline Talbot Chapman, 80, passed away in her home in Ogden on March 20, 2024.
Born July 18, 1943, in Southampton, England, to Frederick George Thomas Talbot and Florence Lillian Diaper, Julie was the second of four siblings. She completed her education at Bitterne Park School in Southampton and worked as a secretary. As a teen, she and her family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She met Roy Richard Chapman, an American serving in the U.S. Air Force in England, in her late teens and they were married on Nov. 3, 1962, in Hyde Park Chapel before being sealed the same day in the London England Temple. They celebrated their 55th anniversary before Roy passed away on Feb. 26, 2018.
The couple moved to the United States in 1964 and lived in Oakland, Calif., before moving to Provo, Utah, where Roy completed his degree at Brigham Young University. They lived for a short time in Tucson, Ariz., before moving to Utah where they made their home in Taylorsville for many years, raising their five daughters, and enjoying time with Julie’s parents and siblings who all eventually immigrated to the U.S. Julie worked for a short time as a quality control inspector at Beehive Clothing Mills.
Julie spoke frequently of her love for and memories of England and was thrilled when she and Roy were called to serve as full-time missionaries in London upon Roy’s retirement. The couple settled in Stansbury Park after returning from their two-year assignment. Julie loved making and socializing with friends, volunteering at Mountain West Medical Center, Tooele, and serving in many church callings. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In recent years, as her health declined, Julie moved to Ogden where she continued to make new friends and memories.
Julie is survived by daughters Cindy Williams of Atlanta, Ga., Sharon (Dave) Hougaard of Honeyville, Utah, Lisa (Rex) Whitmer of Indianapolis, Ind., Heather (Dale) Wilson of Grantsville, Utah; and Emily (Justin) Bodrero of Smithfield, Utah; sisters Heather (Paul) Holbrook of Sandy, Utah, Linda (Robert) Duncan, of Midway, Utah, and brother Gary (Sherry) Talbot of Salt Lake City, Utah; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great grandson Matthew Roth and son-in-law Robert Williams.
A private graveside service for family and friends will be held at Murray City Cemetery. Funeral services handled by Premier Funeral Services of Midvale.
The family wishes to express its deep appreciation for the compassionate care Julie received at Hidden Valley Assisted Living in Ogden and from the team at Symbii Home Health and Hospice of Layton.
