Julie Davis MacKay's Obituary
Julie Davis MacKay, age 66, passed away peacefully on Christmas night, December 25, 2025, at American Fork Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer and the effects of its treatment.
Julie was born on August 23, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Marlene Grace (Rawlinson) Davis and Edward Harold Davis. She attended West High School and graduated in 1977. On June 10, 1977, she married Douglas Scott MacKay, her high school sweetheart, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.
Julie was a devoted wife and a loving mother to four children and grandmother to eleven grandchildren. She blessed her family through her many talents and her quiet, faithful service. A gifted seamstress, she lovingly made many of her own dresses for school dances during high school, as well as Halloween costumes and quilts for her family. She was a wonderful cook, and her family especially cherished her gingersnap cookies and her traditional Sunday roast with mashed potatoes.
Julie was passionate about nutrition and health—while also unapologetically loving sweets. She delighted in planning an annual July celebration for her grandchildren, complete with festive decorations, activities, and abundant food. Her greatest joy was her garden, where she spent countless hours tending and talking to her flowers. Each year her canna lilies grew taller, and her yard reflected her meticulous care and devotion.
Julie spent several years lovingly caring for her parents in their later years, and she continued to serve her family and others through her faith in Jesus Christ and her testimony of eternal families. Julie and Doug faithfully served an inner-city mission in Salt Lake while balancing her struggle with cancer. One of her final church callings was as an ordinance worker in the Draper Utah Temple, a service she dearly loved before her memory and ability to speak declined.
Julie is survived by her beloved husband, Douglas Scott MacKay; her brother, Lowell Davis (Teri Shadlesky); her sister, Rebecca Davis Layton (Stanley); and her children: Zakary David MacKay (Heather Healy), Brigitte MacKay Gorton (Jeff), Nicholas Scott MacKay (Lynn Woidka), and Abigail MacKay Shields, along with her eleven cherished grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Viewing and funeral services will be held January 9, 2025 in Saratoga Springs at 368 Aspen Hills Boulevard, Saratoga Springs, Utah 84045. The viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Elysian Gardens in Millcreek following the service.
Julie’s suffering lasted far too long and claimed too much of her life. She will be deeply missed by her family, who hold fast to their faith in the power of the Resurrection through our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the promise that she will be made whole again.
