Karl was a genius when we worked together at KUED in the 60's. He could fix anything. My fondest memory of him is when he returned from a vacation to find one of the tv cameras with access doors open, probes and scopes everywhere and another engineer striving to find a hum bar going through the camera viewfinder. Karl walked up, asked what was wrong? The frustrated engineer complained about four or five days of work trying to find what was causing the hum bar and couldn't. Karl said, "oh, that." He then reached inside the camera and jiggled a wire bundle and the hum bar disappeared. The engineer's mouth fell open in amazement. If it needed to be fixed we took it to Karl.
