Karl Eugene Starr's Obituary
On April 5th Karl Eugene Starr, beloved father, husband and friend, passed on just 4 days before his 96th birthday. Born in Mesilla Park, New Mexico, Karl grew up with a thirst for knowledge, which eventually led him to earn a Doctor of Education degree from Brigham Young University. Not only did he enjoy learning, but one of his first loves was teaching, which he continued to do throughout most of his life, both academically and in his many responsibilities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Following his service in the US Navy at the end of WW II, he met and married Mazel Rasmussen. Together they raised 4 boys, 2 girls, and enjoyed 22 grandchildren, with numerous great grandchildren. Following Mazel’s untimely death after 45 wonderful years of marriage, Karl married Shirley Sabin, whom he had known as a young man, and they cherished 16 years together until her death in 2010.
Karl is fondly remembered by all who knew him for his genuine warmth and concern for others. His sense of humor was infectious, and he always made those around him feel at ease and appreciated.
He was preceded in death by his wives Mazel and Shirley, grandsons Ryan and Stephen. His surviving children are Sandra Kolstad (Gary), Stephen (Tammy), Daryl (Moon Ja), Ivan (Jaelene), Carolyn Thompson (Joe), and Clinton (Rhonda).
A memorial service will be held in his honor at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3665 South 6000 West Valley City, Utah 84128, on April 15 at 11 AM, with a viewing at 9:30 AM. Interment will take place at the Mantua, Utah.
