Missing my second (Bonus) Mom!
They say it takes a village and Karolyn was the second mother to me while my working Mom of the early 90’s was doing her best while she navigated her long distance marriage with my father.
Karolyn and her family welcomed me into their loving and full Mormon house with no discrimination of my race or religion.
Being a Catholic, Indian, adopted child in the early 90’s in Scottsdale, AZ made me the minority in almost every room I walked into.
I always felt like an outcast at school.
When I walked through Karolyn’s door … along with my little backpack… I dropped all that societal stress at her door…. I always felt like I was home the minute I entered her loving home.
Nostalgia has overcome me this week, I can still smell the comfort food, I can hear the laughter in the halls, bare-feet in the grass, summer camps, books, learning to be more creative, gardening, climbing trees & finding fun games with no TV or video games as a crutch….I always felt like family whenever I was with Karolyn and her girls!
The times we did watch TV it was mostly Disney movies,
which now I own all of them much like Karolyn’s collections.
Karolyn taught me what I like to call the 3 F’s in life.
FAITH, FAMILY & FOCUS.
She was a prime example of a family Matriach!
Sending lots of love and hugs from miles apart. I will always love my Mormon family and the childhood that you shared with me and thanks for sharing your lovely Mother because she has been a profound influence on my life!
