Kathleen Sims Flygare's Obituary
Kathleen Sims Flygare passed away on April 9, 2022, in Provo, Utah peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born July 29,1947 in Salt Lake City to Elmer and LaRue Hoopes Sims. She was raised in Provo and was a proud graduate of Provo High School before attending BYU. She especially loved her time in Acapella and traveled to a number of different places to perform. She married her high school sweetheart, Lenard Bruce Flygare, on December 27, 1967, in the Manti Temple and together they had four children, Lonny, Holly, Tami and Brady. First living in San Diego while Bruce was in the Navy, then in Payson, and finally settled in Orem, Utah.
A life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings, the longest as ward chorister and ward newsletter editor. She loved serving others, especially her children and grandchildren. Even when she couldn’t serve others in the neighborhood anymore, she would make baby rattles to give to new babies and donate to humanitarian projects. She worked for Tupperwear, Creative Cakes and Challenger Preschool before she started teaching piano lessons out of her home. There, she was able to share her love of music as she taught hundreds of piano students, including two of her children and
three grandchildren, over the course of 25 years until she retired.
More than anything, Katheen loved her family. She would do anything for them. Her family will miss her annual family Christmas party, themed gifts, and fresh $2, $20 and $50 dollar bills (She must have inherited her private printing press from her mother LaRue). She loved to hear about everything going on in their lives, including sports, school and friends. She also loved to travel and went on many trips with family and friends.
Kathleen is survived by husband, Lenard Bruce Flygare, daughters Holly (Dave) Gardner, Tami (Shane) Clevenger, son Brady (Brook) Flygare, eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, brother Marvin (DeAnn) Sims, and sisters Roylane (Barry) Edwards, Lynette (Warren) Child, and JaVan Sims, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Lonny (Lisa) Flygare, parents Elmer and LaRue, brother Boyd (Susan) Sims, and sister Marjean (Terry) Farrer.
Her family would like to thank all of the medical staff who cared for her through the years of health problems and hospital stays. We would also like to thank our father, Bruce, for his devoted service to our mother. Married for over 54 years, Bruce and Kathleen took great care of each other, especially in their later years. They truly loved each other.
