Kathrynn Ruth Shaw's Obituary
Kathrynn Ruth Shaw
1999 – 2017
Kathrynn Ruth Shaw, age 18, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Provo, Utah of head injuries sustained from a car accident. She was born February 23, 1999 in Payson, Utah and came into this world with a loud cry and a determined spirit.
Kathrynn is survived by her parents, Devin James Shaw and Kara Nelson Shaw, four siblings, Edynn, Brynn, Hunter, and Laurynn Shaw, grandparents, Glen and Ruth Nelson, and Paul and Louise Shaw, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a Senior at Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah and was an officer on the Elleve Drill Team and had a passion for dance. She graduated with high honors and received the Regents and SUU Centurion Scholarships as well as graduating from Seminary. She was a CNA and looked forward to attending Southern Utah University to study nursing in the Fall.
Kathrynn was a ray of sunshine. To be with her, to talk with her, to hear her laugh was like soaking in warm sunlight that would brighten the darkest day or gloomiest night. She had the rare ability and power to touch and bless all who knew and loved her. She seldom spoke ill of anyone and would get a little testy if you were judgmental toward others or didn’t practice what you preached. Her love for life and everyone in it was a beautiful thing to behold and something we can all strive to emulate. Kate or Kat as some affectionately called her was bright, bubbly, happy, and silly - always quick with a smile, goofy face or hand gesture to help brighten the day. She loved adventure and couldn’t sit still for a minute. She loved to star gaze, long board, discover new places, and try anything new, fun or exciting. She had what some might call a “divine spark”. She rose to every challenge and occasion to help, serve, inspire, love and lift (literally lift her beloved drill teammates). She had a special way of making people better for the time they spent with her.
Kathrynn, you will be sorely missed by all. We are still blessed to feel the warmth of your spirit, the image of your radiant smile and the echoes of your contagious laughter. Though your time here in mortality was cut short, your life was a blessing to us all! You truly made and will continue to make a difference! So here’s to you our “Sweet Kathrynn” – You graduate this life with HIGH HONORS!!! May we choose to live our lives with the courage, zest and determination that you lived yours.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Canyon View Stake Center, 989 South 2550 East, Spanish Fork, UT where a viewing will be held Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Tuesday prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Interment at the Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, UT.
