Colleen Kaye McCullough's Obituary
Colleen Kaye McCullough, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on June 23, 2015 in the Beehive Homes of Herriman, Utah. Colleen was born in Mink Creek, Idaho , October, 23 1928. She was born the fifth child to Richard Thomas Oliverson and Ada Jane Keller.
Colleen grew up and received her grade school education in Mink Creek’s one room school house. Then later attended Preston High School where she met her high school sweetheart Delewis S. Porter. They were married March 1, 1947. Shortly thereafter, Delewis was killed in an industrial accident leaving Colleen to raise their brand new son Delewis O on her own. While working as an telephone operator for Mountain Bell Phone Company she met Don McCullough at a company party. They fell in love and were married January 22, 1951. While married to Don, three more children were added to their family; Richard Don, Daniel D, and Teddee Jane McCullough. She enjoyed her role as mother, wife and homemaker.
Colleen has been an active and loyal member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Serving different callings through her entire life, from primary, to young women’s and Relief Society and to serving two missions for the church. One mission served was with her husband Don McCullough in the Boston-Massachusetts mission. The second mission she served was at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She had many talents that she excelled in including cooking, gardening, and crafts. She loved to paint ceramics and on canvas. She completed many needle work projects including quilting, cross stitch and knitting. Anybody who knew her, knew of her home- made baked bread and handmade pies. She had a beautiful voice, and sang her entire life as well as played the piano. She made friends everywhere she went. Her greatest joy was her family. She devoted her life to raising, teaching and serving her children and grandchildren. Her memory will continue to guide and influence, long after her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, by fifteen years. She was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by four children, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. Services will be held Friday June 26, 2015 at the LDS building located 8841 South 4800 West, West Jordan, Utah. Viewing 9:30 a.m. with the funeral at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Mink Creek, Idaho cemetery Saturday June 27, 2015 at 11:00 am.
