Keith Brent George's Obituary
Our loving Dad, Grandpa, Great-grandpa, Uncle, and friend, Keith Brent George, 81, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021. He was born March 31, 1939 to Leroy and Estelle Platts George in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and only sister, Royanne Stam (Gene).
He graduated from Granite High School, married his high school sweetheart, Betty Larson (later divorced), moved to California, started a family and served three years in the U.S. Army as an Artillery Operations and Intelligence Assistant. Following his service they moved back to Utah and bought a home in the Murray area. Keith started his career joining the Ma Bell family where he made many lifelong friends. After 38 years he retired from Mountain Bell and US West, and began to travel in style in his new motor home.
Dad loved the outdoors – He started fishing with his dad when he was no taller than some of the fish they caught, so it’s no wonder why it became one of his favorite past time activities (and he was pretty damn good at it too!). He even had the patience to ice fish, and liked it. Dad was an all-around sportsman and enjoyed hunting, snow & water skiing, golf, boating, water sports, camping, horseshoes, and building his own dune buggies. He played county rec softball and bowled in leagues for many years.
His friends meant the world to him and they became like family. We are grateful for the memories made with those friends on the many trips to Lake Powell, the sand dunes, and the annual dune buggy safari trips in Moab. Dad loved life and made life fun! He never missed a good football game but the 49ers were his team. He cheered the Utah Jazz basketball team and was an avid supporter of their clothing line. He loved the Utes both during the games and at the tailgating parties. Go Utes!
Keith will be lovingly remembered by his two children, Randy George (Tracie) and Stacey Zakotnik (Wayne), eight grandchildren; Brittany Vrotney (Stan), Scott George (Courtney), Stephanie, Daniel, Jenny, Tyler, Jacob and Katie, and three great-grandsons, Krew, Trey, and Ryan. He will be interred with military honors at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in a private family ceremony.
Dad suffered from emphysema and COPD in recent years and was not able to enjoy his favorite activities. We are grateful that he has been released from these discomforts and restrictions. Run dad, run, and be free.
A special thank you to Stacey and Wayne for their tireless and generous efforts to keep dad’s cupboard and fridge full of food, his home and yard clean, and for the first aid rendered on several occasions. It was comforting to us to know he was in good hands.
We will celebrate his life as family and friends on his 82nd birthday, Wednesday, March 31st from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Premier Funeral Services: 67 E 8000 S, Midvale. For Dad, casual dress and cowboy boots are welcomed.
