Keith Robert Kikel's Obituary
Keith Robert Kikel was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 1, 1941. He graduated from Highland High School and served in the Alaska Canadian mission. He attended Weber State College and Brigham Young University where he graduated in 1966 with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. He worked his way through college in part by teaching ice skating on a part-time basis. He won first place in figure skating and 3rd place in speed skating at the BYU Winter Carnival competition.
He was employed as a District Executive for the Great Salt Lake Council Boy Scouts of America. Later worked for the State of Utah in the social work field and as an employment counselor. He went to school at night and completed a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology.
He loved the military and joined the Army National Guard when he was young and served in various capacities; the last one being an LDS Chaplain retiring as LTC.
In 1969 he married Cavell Nielson from Union, Oregon and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2019. Of that marriage came 6 children: Cory Kikel(Laurie) Saratoga Springs, Utah, Kerry Kikel (Tracie), Herriman, Utah, Jason Kikel (Danielle), Murray, Utah, Darrin Kikel, West Jordan, Utah, Daniel Kikel (deceased), Allison Garcia (Carlos), Kaysville, Utah. From these children have come 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. Kevin Holmgren of California also survives him from a previous marriage.
His other interests were in Real Estate, driving sports cars (mainly Porsches), inventing tools and various types of exercise devices and received patents on them. He loved going to plays and other performances where there was lively music. He loved talking to people and was always ready and eager to listen and counsel someone with a problem.
We'll miss him but know we'll all be together again through Jesus Christ.
