Kenneth Boyd Hill's Obituary
On Monday, 19 September 2022, Kenneth Boyd Hill, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather passed away at the age of 90. He was proceeded in death by his beloved first wife Marilyn Louise Hill, nee Dreschel, father Ruland Odell Hill, mother Mary Hill, nee Stones, sister Mary Gene Davis, nee Hill, and brothers Robert Ruland Hill and Leland Dale Hill.
Born to Ruland and Mary Hill in 1932, Boyd’s first job was selling newspapers during WWII and he often proudly recounted handing newspapers to troops leaving for the war. A renaissance man, Boyd took on a wide variety of jobs over the years to include waste management with his father-in-law Walter Otto Drechsel, photography, sales for Love Oil, and even manure sales as a youth. Blessed with the gift of gab, Boyd was known far and wide for his ability to talk to anybody about anything and, in doing so, forged a number of lasting friendships.
As a professional photographer, he owned Boyd’s Portrait Studio in Sugar House for over 25 years. Boyd specialized in portrait, high school and wedding photography and used his natural talent of putting people at ease to bring out the best in his subjects. One of his most notable portraits was of renowned artist Arnold Friberg which was engraved on Mr. Friberg’s headstone.
Boyd was also an avid golfer and loved fishing. He took part in both golf tournaments and fishing around the country and shared his passion for the sports with many of his family members.
Of all his accomplishments however, he was most proud of his family. His love went beyond just words as he did all he could later in life to let all his grandchildren know they were loved and special to him. Boyd is survived by his beloved second wife Susan Patricia Hill, nee Slaughter, brothers Sherron (Afton) Hill, Ron (Coleen) Hill and sister-in-law Kathleen Wahlberg Hill. He is also survived by his children from his first marriage Ken (Renee), Frank (Debbie), Tammy (Bob) King, Kevin (Jana), Robyn (Steve) Barnes, Brian (Kim), Shelly Claerhout Hill and his second wife’s son Will (Tetiana), twenty-six grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
