Kent Clifford Blamires' Obituary
Kent Clifford Blamires, 76, of West Haven, Utah graduated triumphantly from this mortal life on Sunday, January 21, 2024, safe in his home. He was surrounded by family and friends in his final days.
Kent was the 2nd child of Clifford and Kathleen Blamires. He was born June 4, 1947, in Ogden, Utah. He was raised in Kaysville, Utah and graduated from Davis High school in 1965. As a Davis Dart, he participated in track and acapella choir. Singing continued to be one of his greatest joys throughout his life, as he participated in many ward choirs. As a member of the Oratorio Society of Utah, he loved singing in the chorus of Handel’s Messiah to celebrate many Christmas seasons.
Kent met the love of his life at Weber State College’s LDS institute. They were married and sealed for all eternity on July 10, 1970 at the Logan, Utah LDS Temple, and spent their first two years together in Tampa, Florida, where Kent served in the United States Air Force. Kent then spent one year in Southeast Asia, after which he returned to Ogden, Utah, where he and Gayle were reunited. They stayed in Weber County for the rest of their earthly time together.
Kent completed his B.S. in History at Weber State College in 1979. He worked at Hill AFB for 28 years as a radar technician and in a number of other roles. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for 6 years, which turned out to be his dream job. At home, he enjoyed model railroading, reading, keeping an aquarium, playing with the kids or grandkids, and working with his many tools. He was the biggest kid about Christmas and loved setting up his countdown for the whole neighborhood to see. He also loved amusement park rides, introducing all his children to them, and some of our fondest memories of him are of the pure joy he showed on our family trip to Disneyland in January of 2023, where he rode all the rides with a smile on his face.
As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in the Great Lakes Mission from 1966 -1968. He held many positions of responsibility in the church, including ward mission leader, ward clerk, Seventies president, nursery leader, and his favorite, primary teacher. He was also called to a service mission at the LDS Cannery in Ogden with Gayle, where they served for 5 years.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jeneil Johns, and his nephews Brian Johns and Todd Blamires.
He is survived by his wife Gayle, brother Kevin Blamires, children Valarie, Shawna, John (Susan) and Kristi-Lyn Blamires, and his treasured grandchildren, Brielle, Kenslie, and Brogan Blamires.
The family would like to express the most profound appreciation to the many caregivers at Applegate HomeCare and Hospice, who compassionately kept Kent comfortable in his last days, and who were so kind and thoughtful toward the family.
An open house Graduation Party will be held Saturday, February 24, from 2:00 - 4:00 at 2300 South 2700 W, West Haven. Guests are asked to wear red and are welcome to stay as long as they’d like to play, sing, eat, and celebrate with the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Kent’s name to the American Cancer Society of Utah or Donor Connect, or your registration as an organ donor.
