Kerry Edward DeVries' Obituary
Kerry Edward DeVries passed away Oct. 14, 2022, at the age of 73 after fighting a long battle of early onset dementia. Kerry was born June 24, 1949, to Rudy and Karma Tobler DeVries in St. George, Utah. Kerry was the oldest of four children, and was a great older brother to Kurt, Jeff and Melody. He was raised in Taylorsville, Utah and enjoyed scouting, exploring the Jordan River bottoms, and playing basketball and baseball. He always loved visiting his grandmother in Ivins, Utah and exploring the red rocks and hills.
Kerry met his eternal companion Marilyn Beckstrand at Utah State University. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on June 3, 1972, for time and all eternity. They were blessed with six children Brian, Jason, Bradley, Michelle, Alycia, and Jared. They spent family vacations camping and exploring all over the state of Utah. Some of Kerry’s favorite places to visit were the High Uintahs, backpacking the Wind Rivers, fly fishing Huntington Creek, float tubing Strawberry Reservoir, and hunting and visiting family in Meadow, Utah. Kerry had many hobbies including fishing, hunting, riding dirt bikes, gardening, fish carving, woodworking, and tying flies. Later in life Kerry became a Master Gardener and he always had a beautiful yard. Kerry had a love for animals and especially loved his dogs.
Kerry graduated from Granger High School. He went to Utah State University where he graduated in Landscape Architecture. Later, he went back to school at Salt Lake Community College where he graduated in Electronics. Kerry was a stone mason with his father for over a decade. He then worked for Eastman Kodak as a field engineer where he retired.
Kerry had a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a full-time mission to the Netherlands. He served faithfully in several callings, including working with the young men, scouting, gospel doctrine instructor, high council, Bishop, and as an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple.
Kerry is survived by his mother-in-law NaDean Beckstrand, brother Jeffery (Shanan), children Brian (MaryAnn), Jason (Shanna), Bradley (Christine), Michelle (Michael), Alycia (Gary), Jared (Abbie) and 18 grandchildren.
Kerry is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, parents Rudy and Karma DeVries, father-in-law Harold Beckstrand, brother Kurt DeVries, and his sister Melody Harrison.
Funeral service will be Oct. 19, 2022, at 10:00 with a visitation from 9:00 – 9:45, at the LDS chapel on 7255 S. 2200 W. West Jordan, UT. Interment Meadow Cemetery, Meadow, Utah at approximately 2:00.
