Kevin John Wooten's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin John Wooten—a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend—on May 8, 2025, at the age of 69. Kevin passed away of natural causes following a courageous battle with Lewy body dementia. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and quiet devotion to those he loved.
Kevin was born on June 12, 1955, in Vallejo, California, to John and Julietta (Julie) Wooten. The youngest of five children in a military family, Kevin moved often during his early years. When his father retired from the service, the family settled in Layton, Utah. Kevin graduated from Layton High School and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for four years. Upon returning home, Kevin pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in Zoology along with a teaching certificate. He went on to spend 27 years teaching science and math in inner-city schools, where he made a lasting impact. Former students often said, “I don’t remember many of my junior high teachers, but I remember Mr. Wooten.”
Kevin had an unmatched work ethic. For much of his adult life, he maintained three jobs at a time. He had a love for cars—especially Corvettes—and always had one he was restoring. He adored his small dogs and cherished time with his family and friends. Kevin was always willing to lend a hand—whether it was working on a car, shoeing a horse, helping with home projects, or guiding someone through a science fair. He didn’t often express his love in words, but his actions spoke volumes. His dedication was evident in how he cared for his aging father, visiting him daily, and how he faithfully supported his wife, Meg, through serious health complications, never leaving her side.
Kevin met his first wife, Linda Crabtree, through his mother. Together, they shared two children. Later, he helped raise two more children, Aaron and Jaime Ogelsby, with his second wife, Sheila—loving and caring for them as his own.
In the final chapter of his life, Kevin was blessed to reunite and marry his high school friend, Meg Wooten. Over the past ten years, Meg and her family embraced Kevin with open arms. Meg remained by his side with unwavering love and strength throughout his illness. We only wish they had more time together.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Meg Wooten, and his cherished children and grandchildren:
Clint and Becky Wooten – Grace, Garrett, Gavin, and Gwen. Daniel and Katie Bryant – Adele, Malachi, Elora, Thaddeus, Tulula, and Teancum.
Meg's Children:
Daughter Michelle (Matt) Weylands, grandchildren: Oakland, Carson and Lily
Son Jason Kneedy, grandchildren: Sheyanne, Colt and Ryker
Son Brian Kneedy (Jenny), grandchildren: Blake, Paige, Wyatt and Sara
Daughter Joni (Tyson) Porter, grandchildren: Jett and Nixon
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and all four of his older siblings: Keith, Sheila, Kenneth, and Sharon.
Kevin never sought recognition. He believed in fairness, hard work, and integrity. His influence lives on in the lives of those he taught, mentored, and loved.
