Kristine Ann Hales MacFarlane's Obituary
Kristine Ann Hales Macfarlane
Nov 13, 1965 – Nov 23, 2021
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 23, Kristine shed her mortal bonds and was released from her pain and suffering following a heroic battle with a long and difficult illness. She died at home in Plain City, Utah, with her loving husband and best friend, Todd Macfarlane, by her side.
Kristine was born to devoted parents G. Larry and Deanna Taylor Hales on November 13, 1965, in Ogden, Utah. She was raised in North Ogden, attending Weber County schools. She was an active energetic child, who possessed a passion for life and loved to spend her days exploring the great outdoors. One of her greatest joys was snow skiing with her dad – she would rise early on weekends to accompany him to Powder Mountain where he served on the ski patrol, and where with his guidance she learned to ski powder. She had a soft spot for ALL animals and was continually rescuing and caring for strays which more often than not would become family pets – much to her parents’ dismay.
On September 10, 1983, Kristine married Todd Macfarlane in Pleasant View, Utah, and together they embarked on a 38-year journey. Many happy times were spent with family and friends camping, skiing, hiking, golfing and 4-wheeling. Kris and Todd were blessed to travel all over the world to countless unique and exciting places where memories were made that would strengthen their love – enduring to the end.
Kris had a green-thumb and was so passionate about gardening that she obtained her Master Gardener certification. Even after becoming ill she found great joy in visiting local nurseries and engaging with other gardeners – offering guidance in plant selection and landscape design.
Kris fought bravely and well, meeting each new challenge and setback with courage and determination. She will forever be remembered and will always be cherished in the hearts and minds of those who love her and whom she loved.
Kris is survived by her husband, Todd, daughters Caitlin (Keith) Hayes, and Emily (Chance) Bailey, sons Kevin (Alex) Macfarlane and Chase (Ashland) Macfarlane, along with seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Her parents Larry and Deanna Hales, and sisters Darci (Mitch) Goddard, Lori (Jim) Mahas, and Kim (Paul) Hadley. In-laws Jeniel (Bob) Larsen, Manila, Utah, and Bob (T.J.) Macfarlane, Bakersfield, California.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to her caregivers, Siosi, C.N.A., and Lisa, R.N. with IHC Hospice whose professionalism, empathy and loving care proved to be invaluable during this difficult time. A special thanks to Mark and Janet Green for their friendship, love, and support.
At Kristine’s request there will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, https://bestfriends.org/sanctuary , or to a charity of your choice.
