Kyle Ray Grant's Obituary
Kyle Ray Grant passed away peacefully on June 14th, at the age of 52, in his home surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with cancer.
Kyle was born October 20th 1967 to Albert Fred and Shana Rae Grant. He is the fifth child of six. Although his arrival interfered with his dad’s deer hunt that year, dad always considered him his trophy buck.
Kyle served a faithful mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Washington D.C. north mission. Kyle loved the people he served there. He still has contact with several, who loved him as well.
Kyle met the love of his life Lori Memmott while working together at Roe’s Bake Shoppe in Payson Utah, where he continued to master his baking skills. Kyle worked daily with “flour” but he finally picked his “favorite flower” Lori. They married on June 30th 1990 in the Manti LDS temple for time and all eternity. Kyle said it was the best decision he ever made and it was the best 30 years of his life.
Kyle’s passion was baking. He made it his life’s career, and he honed his skills working at Mom McFadden’s, Roe’s Bake Shoppe, Macey’s Bakery and Allen’s Bakery where he made the front page off the Daily Herald. Even more than that he made 100’s of lifelong friends adding “Sweetness” to their lives.
Kyle retired from baking after 31 years. He then took a job with the Utah State hospital working on the Mountain View unit. We all thought baking was Kyle’s biggest talent, but his true great gift was seeing the good in every person’s heart. He valued the individuality and uniqueness of everyone he came in contact with.
To know Kyle… was to love Kyle, because just meeting him left an impression on your heart. Kyle was the most roll-with-the-flow, easy going, guy with the greatest sense of humor and quick wit. He truly understood that laughter is the best medicine. He kept us laughing even up through the last moments of his life.
Kyle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many positions but his favorite was being a home teacher. Many were brought back to the fold through his love and Christ like example.
Some of Kyle’s hobbies were listening to loud music, especially rock and roll, the louder the better. He loved working in his yard. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially a good hike. He was passionate about sports. Kyle was an avid BYU fan and loved the Utah Jazz during the Stockton to Malone years.
Kyle’s devoted partner in crime was his beloved dog “Harley”. Harley was by his side for over 18 years. We are sure she was the first one to greet him in Heaven.
Kyle is survived by his loving wife Lori Anne Memmott Grant. His father Albert Fred Grant Sr. His mother in law Lorene Arnold, His siblings Travis Grant, Konnie (Glen) Harward, Joshua (Ashley) Grant, Tanya Memmott, Ryan (Michelle) Memmott, Justin Memmott, Kristen (Tyson) Horton, Kimberly (Cody) Powell, and many nieces and nephews who adored him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved dog “Harley”, His mother Shana Rae Rasmussen Grant, His father in law Terry Otheros Memmott, His brother Albert Fred Grant Jr., His sister Launa Lee Grant, His sisters in law Jena Frye Grant and Sharon Lee Yeates Grant. His nieces Rachel Lee Grant, Camille Jan Grant and Marissa Vigil. His nephews Colman Red Grant, Charly James Erekson and Jeffery Lee Harward.
As family we express our heartfelt thanks to CNS Hospice, especially Kyle’s shower aide Lindsey and our nurse Jeff who quickly became more than Kyle’s nurse, he became part of the family. He helped Kyle have dignity and smiles through the hard times up to the very end. Thank you Jeff. Thank you also to Premier Funeral Services for their respectful care of Kyle. We gratefully appreciate all of Kyle’s good friends and neighbors who brought so much love and comfort through their service and friendship.
