Lamont Joseph Jacobs' Obituary
Lamont Joseph Jacobs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 in the comfort of his home with loved ones, in Kaysville, Utah. He was 93 years old.
Born July 21, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Joseph Jacobs and Maude Leone Openshaw, Lamont grew up in Salt Lake City on 2nd Avenue and spent his summers in Kaysville with his family and extended family at the family farmhouse. Many cherished memories were made in Kaysville.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Western Canadian Mission from January 1951-January 1953. His missionary service helped strengthen his testimony and gave him a great love for the scriptures.
Lamont met his sweetheart Barbara Horsley in high school. They later married February 20, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 5 beautiful children.
Lamont Jacobs served in the United States Army during the Korean war at Fort Ord, California from May 1953-May 1955.
After serving in the military, Lamont and Barbara moved back to Utah where Lamont finished his education at the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacology in the spring of 1959. He owned and operated his own pharmacies for many years. One of these was Bowman’s Pharmacy in Kaysville Utah.
Lamont and Barbara had many happy years raising their family in Salt Lake and Bountiful. In 1975 they were able to move into the beloved family farmhouse in Kaysville and have called that home ever since.
Lamont loved people and had many opportunities to serve them and the Lord in various church callings.
He and his sweetheart Barbara served in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission from July 2001-August 2002. They loved their service and the people they served. They hoped their time serving was a testament to their children and grandchildren of their love for the Lord.
Lamont loved his family, his Father in Heaven and being outside in nature. He spent many wonderful hours, days and weeks (too numerous to count) fishing and camping in the Uintah mountains, which he loved, with his sons and many friends.
He will be remembered for his kind, generous nature and his ability to overcome challenges, including his health challenge of Type 1 Diabetes that was diagnosed at a young age. He was an example to all who met him. It was hard to go anywhere where someone did not know him.
Memorial Day celebrations at the old farmhouse will go down in family history as epic. Lamont and Barbara knew how to have a good time and throw a great party. Everything from hot dogs, hamburgers to volleyball, egg toss, and 4-wheeler rides were part of the festivities.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons Thomas Alan Jacobs, and Michael Joseph Jacobs, and sister Geri Barker.
Lamont is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara and his children Reed Lamont (Ruth) Jacobs, Shauna Lynn Jacobs and Sherri Lee (Shain) Dusenberry.
Grandchildren: Carrie Jacobs, Amy Jacobs and Katie (Sam) Roisum, Daysha (Michael) Rough, Dallin (Paige) Dusenberry, Karissa Dusenberry, Kambree Dusenberry. And Great Grandchildren Colter Dusenberry and Axel Timothy Roisum.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 26th at 11:00AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1039 East Crestwood Rd, Kaysville, UT 84037. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10-10:45 AM at the church.
