Larry Brian Barton's Obituary
Larry Brian Barton, 66, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Brian was born to Larry David Barton and Margaret Hope (Wardell) Wittenbraker in Ogden, UT on December 17, 1956. He grew up in the Washington Terrace area of Ogden, UT. As a child and young adolescent, he found solace in the outdoors and enjoyed hiking in Weber Canyon. Brian dropped out of school and left home at young age to try and find his way in the world.
Brian worked hard to receive his GED to join the United States Army. He served in the 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Brian was proud of his service and shared many stories of completing Ranger school, training in Alaska and Panama, and performing parachute jumps.
After his time in the army, Brian met and married Sherma Kaye Martin. While married, they had one son. Brian and Sherma later divorced, but they remained major parts of each others lives and stayed lifelong friends.
Brian was extremely smart and skilled in many trades. He completed many years of trade school and worked in many positions, including a computer technician, an electrician, a carpenter, a plumber, and a tutor. If Brian didn’t know how to do something, he had determination to learn and master it. In Brian’s later years, he loved to woodwork and build many things in his workshop.
Brian was an avid reader. His favorites series was The Lord of the Rings. He also loved science fiction books. He read so much he wore out multiple e-readers.
The highlight of Brian’s life was being a grandfather. He loved his grandchildren, and he lived for time with them. He took the grandkids on many 4-wheel adventures and completed wood crafts in the shop with them. When his health deteriorated, and he was no longer able to do those things, he played video games with them and fed them endless amounts of popsicles. If too many days went by without the grandkids coming to visit, Brian would send reminder texts that it was time for them to come over. Brian’s last text to Scott was, “Tell the kids I love them.”
Brian was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Brian is survived by his lifelong friend, Sherma Kaye Barton; his son, Brian Scott Barton (Ann); step son, Rick L Martin (Tina); grandchildren: Kylee Lynn Martin, Tess Marie Martin, Scott Mitchell Barton, Anniston Kate Barton, and Adrienne Kaye Barton.
