Launa Gibbons' Obituary
Launa Gibbons of Salt Lake City, Utah, left us on 09/12/2024 at 81 years old. She danced into the world during World War 2 on December 13, 1942, born to Howard Gould (a veteran), who affectionately called her T-loon, and her mother Helen Gould. She was the first of 3 daughters.
Launa was a student at South High School. Her passion for dancing lasted her lifetime. She continued dance lessons late into adulthood with her then-very elderly dance instructor from high school. She lit up the stage tap dancing at 80 years old in a recital.
She dedicated much of her professional life to real estate, where she excelled as a top producer with Coldwell Banker in St. George and Salt Lake City. She had a great appreciation for real estate law and fiercely protected her clients. She used her experience in real estate volunteering on the HOA board for her community, where she worked hard to make things orderly and beautiful.
Beyond her professional achievements, Launa found joy in the rhythm and movement of life as a golfer and tap dancer. Her hobbies reflected her enjoyment of the company of friends and meeting new people.
As a friend and family member, she took a genuine interest in what others were accomplishing, was eager to lend an ear, and was a fun conversationalist. Always up for a good time, she was not one to turn down an invitation. She had a feisty constitution, stood up for what she believed was right, and was unafraid to let you know. She enjoyed walking the grounds of Old Farm and took each new little family member to feed the ducks and run from the Nipper the goose.
She had fun getting dressed up, had a feminine style, and a flair for the fancy. She recently expressed her style by having her ears double pierced; she said she wanted to wear as many of her favorite earrings as possible.
Launa was true to herself and lived fully right up to the end. She was brave and handled herself with grace. She continued to advise the residents on the rules of the homeowner’s association. She maintained her curious spirit; she shopped, planned an outfit down to the details for an event she was looking forward to attending, explored, walked her beloved grounds with friends, and spent time visiting with family.
Launa is survived by her only child and steadfast supporter, Steven Stubenvoll, daughter-in-law Stephanie, who Launa admired for being a great support to her son. Her three grandchildren, the Stubenvoll boys, Michael, who helped with home repairs and fixed her electronics when she had them mixed up; Mitchell, who she looked forward to talking with on his daily commute; Matthew who provided many a chuckle; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Aleia Stubenvoll, who she was endlessly proud of. Her sisters, Victoria Long (Michael Long) and Dece Morgan (Michael Morgan) will miss the force she has been since the beginning. And her two nieces, Kristin Schmidt, her confidant, and Ashley Morgan, who entertained Launa with tales of her exciting endeavors. Her great nieces and nephews will never forget “fancy” Aunt Launa. We will miss her. We are glad she enjoyed the summer; she will keep on tap dancing in our hearts.
